Bolaks is the result of a long and proud history that stretches back generations, but the passion for the sea has been the driving force through all our years.

1975

Bolaks was founded in 1975 by brothers Reidar and Trygve Holmefjord together with Magne Bolstad.

Like their father, the Homefjord brothers were skilled sprat fishermen, and brought with them the knowledge of living off and on the sea, and handling fish in a good way. Their brother Egil Holmefjord later joins the company.

The Holmefjord brothers started out in the infancy of the aquaculture industry, and therefore had to develop the industry in order to develop their business. They harvested wild salmon from the rivers, produced eggs and smolts, built cages and sewed nets.

1977

Bolaks built a slaughterhouse in Naustdalen, which was first put into use in 1978.

1978

Bolaks joined to found AS Sævareid Fiskeanlegg, a smolt producer in Sævareid in Bjørnafjorden municipality.

Sævareid currently produces smolt for Bolaks and its other owners, and is an integral part of the Bolaks Group.

1982

Bolaks bought the site at Lammaneset, the location of today's head office.

The area was a significant investment for the company and is being used for the construction of a smolt hall, slaughterhouse/packing house, hatchery, net pen, cash warehouse and administration premises.

1985

Bolaks' broodstock and egg production at Lammaneset supplied 30% of the Norwegian egg market.

1986

Bolaks is one of the founders of the breeding company Norsk Lakseavl (NLA), later called AquaGen.

1990

Bolaks acquired the Lygrepollen smolt facility.  

The facility will be Nystølen, which is where Bolaks currently operates broodstock and egg production.

1992

Bolaks was one of the founders of Norway Royal Salmon (NRS).

2001

Bolaks took the initiative to found the breeding company SalmoBreed, together with Aqua Forsk Genetics Center, Osland and Tombre.

2004

The company Sævareid Kraft AS (later Bolaks Energy AS) is established.

2005

For the 35th anniversary, Ella Marie Brekke Vangsnes wrote the book "Experience - our future. AS Bolaks 1975 - 2010", which provides comprehensive and interesting documentation of the company's history.

2010

The H74 slaughterhouse at Lammaneset will be closed down, and future slaughtering services will be carried out by external parties.

2014

Salmobreed was sold to Benchmark Genetics.

2015

In December 2015, "AS Bolaks, 40 years of fish farming" celebrated.

2020

Bolaks is carrying out a comprehensive reorganization of the company.

The purpose of the reorganization is to sharpen the skills of the employees in various areas of expertise, such as services, feeding and daily operation of the premises.

2021

Bolaks enters into a 50% contract on Sølvtrans AS wellboat MS Ronja Vest.

2022

The Bolaks Group is established.

Eirene reorganizes its ownership structure and establishes a group of different companies.

2023

Bolaks enters into a strategic partnership with Sekkingstad for the harvesting, sales and marketing of the salmon we produce.
